The Herefordshire Historic Churches Trust was formed sixty years ago to provide financial help with repairs, restoration and improvement to churches of all denominations in Herefordshire. We look to help churches help themselves and since the trust was formed many hundreds of thousands of pounds have been given in the way of grants to help churches with essential repairs.

The Trust is supported entirely by voluntary subscriptions, donations and legacies. The more money it receives, the more help it can give.

Welcome to the website of the Hereford Historic Churches Trust.  Our church buildings fill the landscape here in beautiful Herefordshire.  Many have been here for centuries.  They are architectural gems that preserve much of the history of the county.  But more than that, they are ‘thin places’ where the kingdom of God can feel a little bit closer. Hallowed by centuries of prayer they provide not just a spiritual focus for our communities, but a practical one as well. From the earliest times they have been spaces for gathering together and building community.  More recently, as many services have withdrawn from our villages, the provide a venue for things as diverse as foodbanks and post offices.

The trust plays a vital role in supporting their maintenance and development. Although congregations are often smaller these days, many people continue to be drawn to these sacred spaces as a focus for their private prayer and reflection.  Keeping them open going forward is vital for this unseen ministry. The continuing flourishing of our buildings will be a collaborative effort between local, worshipping congregations, the wider community and external funders. HHCT is proud to be able to offer financial and other support in this effort.

Thank you so much for your support for the trust.
