Herefordshire Historic Churches Trust presents “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (1923) with live organ accompaniment in St Michael’s Ledbury at 7.30pm on Saturday October 28th
Following our successful screening of “Safety Last” earlier this year, we continue our silent film series with the 1923 version of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, an early masterpiece of cinematic gothic in time for Halloween. Starring Lon Chaney as the Hunchback and Patsy Ruth Miller as Esmeralda, this film was one of the smash hits of the 1920’s, and features a convincing recreation of 15th century Paris, a generous helping of romance, and plenty of spooky goings-on.
We are delighted to welcome Anthony Hammond, a rising star of the younger musical generation, as our organist for the evening. As well as enjoying a busy and varied performing career, Anthony is Director of Music and Organist at Cirencester Parish Church, and has a strong reputation for silent film improvisation.
